*GASP* A uniform! But what about "developing my personal style"?!?!??!?
Actually, finding a uniform is exactly what developing a personal style means. It's a seriously good idea to develop a basic look that you work around. Find a great cut of jeans or slacks, and buy it in all the colors. Figure out the right style of shirt for you, and pick it up when you see it. Choose a height of heel and a type of coat. Preferably all of these things should work together. And, voila, now you can mix and match these things and know you will look great!
I suspect some of you are still unconvinced, and I admit this means you'll have to do some work. I recommend starting that work in your own closet. Pull out the items that make you look and feel good when you wear them, the stuff that gets you noticed and complimented. Note everything you can about each piece - cut (including neckline, sleeve cut & length, waist height, inseam, etc), color, fabric, brand, and where you got it. Turn something that feels mysterious into a science experiment. Then take your data with you when you are out shopping, and try replicating your hypothesis for why the piece works.
Agree! People are more likely to think, "You look good today," than, "Didn't you wear flats yesterday, too?"
ReplyDeleteExactly! If you wear the exact same flats every day, eventually someone might notice. But rotate a few pairs that coordinate with your outfit, and at worst it'll become your "thing" and people might even start asking for flats advice!
